Earth’s oil reserves are depleted and nations race against terrorists for control over alternative energy sources. The Syndicate – a conglomerate of allied intelligent agencies must put an end to the global energy war. Meet Juliet Arroway, a Syndicate Spy, and her trainee Mariam, a Saudi Princess. Together, they hunt down energy terrorists.

But when the Syndicate begins to suspect that Mariam’s family is involved, tensions build and bodies begin to drop like flies. Juliet’s long-time boyfriend is targeted and killed. In her quest to seek revenge, Juliet is paired with an ex-Syndicate-turned-FBI agent Graham. Juliet is initially wary of Graham but soon falls madly in love with him. Their feelings for each other are mutual. But their job gets in the way. Juliet must decide if the mission is worth risking her life as well as that of those she loves.

The Syndicate Spy is a series debut as well as Brittany Butler’s debut novel. I read this book in one sitting – I had to, it was THAT engrossing and riveting. A complete page turner. Keeps you hooked from start to finish. Unique and interesting series-plot, excellent plot-to-story development, likeable characters, a dash of romance, and whole lot of action and adventure. The Syndicate Spy by Brittany Butler is one of the best debuts I read this year.

The plot here is straight forward : put an end to the global energy war. But it’s not as easy as it sounds – hunt for the mastermind terrorist is marred with many dead ends. There’s no photo to identify him – just a name, which very well might be an alias. Soon, Juliet receives a shocking news. Her boyfriend Jean-Marc is killed in a plane crash – the accident orchestrated by the terrorist group. Devastated by her loss, Juliet has no idea what’s next for her. Months later, Juliet learns Mariam’s family might be involved.

Juliet is paired with Graham, a handsome ex-Syndicate-turned-FBI agent. They go to Saudi in search of the terrorist mastermind. But they find themselves in the middle of a political tiff. Their lives are in danger.

The second half of the book keeps one on the edge of their seats. Nerve-wracking and mind-blowing twists keeps one guessing till the end. Lots of action, adventure, and romance. Speaking of romance, Graham and Juliet certainly turn the heat up a notch. Their chemistry is sizzling hawt!

I loved every bit of this fantabulous debut. I am looking forward to reading more of Juliet Arroway’s adventures. Jack Reacher, you better watch out. There’s a new badass in town and her name’s Juliet Arroway

I received an ARC from Greenleaf Book Group Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
