Book Review: Sprinkles of Suspicion by Kim Davis

One glass of cheap California chardonnay cost me my husband, my job, and my best friend. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of my troubles.

Wowity Wow! What a start to a new mystery series! We have blackmail, extramarital affairs, lies, betrayal and murder! Phew!

Stories that are out of my comfort zone is what I look for, once in a while. This book was a breath of fresh air. Marvelous plot, twists and turns you won’t see coming and… what an ending! Simply wow!

Sprinkles of Suspicion is waaayyy different from all the (cozy) mysteries I have read so far. If you are wondering why cozy is in brackets, here’s why: Our protagonist, Emory is totally lost; her husband slept with her best friend Tori; Emory learns of Tori’s double life; Tori’s posted a racy picture of Emory and Randall on the internet. If all this wasn’t enough, Emory goes to Tori’s house and finds Tori stabbed to death. Any guesses as to who’s the only suspect?

As the story proceeds, we see Tori’s life going from bad to worse. She learns a few secrets about her so-called best friend. She also learns about her cheating husband. Emory’s mother is being a pain in the backside. Mumma loves Carrie (Emory’s twin) while Emory is the black sheep of the family.

A likeable protagonist is what we usually look for in a story, don’t we? In Sprinkles of Suspicion, we see Emory trying to mend things but is unsuccessful – every single time! Ow! At times I felt like diving into my kindle and asking Emory to just wait and let the cops do their work. But Em connects the dots and comes face to face with the killer. Oops!

Sprinkles of Suspicion kept me on the edge of my seat. The revelations make you go “Say whaattt????” The identity of the killer was surprising. As the story ends, a lot of things change in Emory’s life – some for good and some, … eh! I am certainly looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
