Engaged in Danger is the fourth book in Barbara Venkatraman’s Jamie Quinn Mystery series. It goes without saying that Barbara never fails to surprise her readers!!
Jamie is happy! She’s going to Nicaragua to meet her dad for the first time, everything seems to work fine between her and Kip, she and Grace also strike a deal that can get them some extra cash but… things don’t go as we want them to, do they?
The story starts with Kip revealing to Jamie his plans to go to Australia for three months. How would Jamie live without him for three months? Does Kip care about Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombats more than his girlfriend Jamie????
Right in the middle of my pity party, I thought of something that made me laugh. Other girls might worry about losing their guy to another woman, but not me. I’d already lost mine – to a Hairy-Nosed Wombat. Excuse me, a Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat.
Nan Glasser comes to Jamie, and as you all know, Jamie is a family lawyer. Mrs Glasser wants to divorce her husband but none of the other lawyers are willing to take up her case citing ‘conflict of interest.’ Jamie knows that the man is powerful but she promises to help Mrs Glasser in any possible way. Grace talks to her law firm and it is decided that Grace and Jamie will handle Mrs Glasser’s divorce case.
It sounds all simple, doesn’t it? But Grace and Jamie’s friendship is in trouble. Kip is in the woods with a red-haired gorgeous grad student. Jamie’s neighbour doubts that her twin sister was murdered! Oh boy, Jamie does it again – poking her lawyer-y nose into a criminal case!
There are two mysteries in this story. Jamie’s neighbour Sandy’s sister and her husband were killed in a plane crash. Then there is the nasty Marvin Glasser who promises to ruin Jamie’s career! Duke is called in to help with both the cases. Nick makes a guest appearance and so does someone else. (hint: JP) Also, Jamie’s computer gets hacked by the infamously famous Ransomware!
As usual, the characters are funny. The pacing and the suspense is well-maintained until the end. It goes without saying that Jamie is the heroine of this story! Her silly doings almost gets her debarred!! Phew! That was a close shave! I said this in the previous review and I will say it again, I felt like Jamie was sitting right next to me, narrating her ‘mis’adventures. I highly recommend this series. 🙂
Lovely review. Sounds fun
Thank you 🙂💖
Lovely review, Rekha! 🙂 I guess this novel can’t be read as a standalone?
Thanks, Deb. It can be read as a standalone. But it’s better to start from book 1. 🙂
