I have only good things to say about this bone-chilling, mind-numbing, dark domestic thriller. But before I give you my opinion, let me give you a gist of the story. A woman and her young son are on the run. It’s got to do with her husband – he lied to her. He was not the man she thought he was. The bad people will catch them soon, so she has to run – be one step ahead of them at all times.

The story alternates between past and present. The past is all about Lea meeting Harry, their troubled relationship, Harry’s secrets, and events that finally led to the one last incident that made her run away with her son (Josh) soon after the wedding.

You took that love, Harry, and twisted it into something indescribable, and I’ve spent the last five years living in fear of us, and the last few days living in fear of what we might have become if I’d stayed.

Lea checks in into the house she booked for her honeymoon week with Josh but she’s wary of her surroundings. She reminisces the times she spent with Harry – how their relationship took a turn for worse. Things started on a good note but then came the hurdles. He didn’t want to marry but Lea didn’t mind. Then, an unexpected proposal followed by an engagement party.

The engagement party ended up with a disaster as Harry disappeared soon after the party started. And his boss’s wife had not-so-good-things to say about Harry. Frustrated, Lea returns home to find Harry in his home office. Then comes a roadblock – or rather, the beginning of what seems like a rollercoaster ride to hell.

Well, if Lea’s past is all dark, the present is no better. Josh wants to go home and be with his daddy, but Lea knows it isn’t possible – the bloodied veil is a proof of how bad things went after the wedding. Then there’s a nasty wound on her arm which seems to be infected. But she cannot go to a hospital and get it checked – the bad guys are still looking for her and Josh.

I cannot choose a favorite scene from this book. Both past and present events were equally gripping, dark, and filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Speaking of unexpected twists, the ending – boy, now that’s what I call a mind-blowing ending. Totally UNEXPECTED and SHOCKING. I was like, wait what?? What the heck just happened? I didn’t see it coming – I definitely didn’t!

It’s made pretty clear to the reader that Lea and Harry’s relationship wouldn’t survive for long as Harry was manipulative and controlling. Her friends and her mum were worried about her, even on her wedding day, they ask if she’s sure about this. Yet, Lea went ahead and married Harry… only to run away that same evening with her son.

Excellent storytelling. Mind-blowing twists. I was hooked from start to finish and I read this book in one sitting. I suppose this is one of the best and twisty domestic thrillers I have ever read. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and grab your copy today!

Many thanks to Chloe Cummings from One More Chapter for the ARC. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
