An Accident in Paris by Gavin Collinson is an intriguing conspiracy thriller. I was hooked on to the story and could not put it down until the end. I admit the ending was a tad unexpected and not up to my liking. But the twists and turns were fantastic.

The story begins with two people visiting Marc Novak, a private investigator. They want him to look into Princess Di’s fatal accident. They claim they have sought help from authorities before and Marc is their last hope.

So off goes Marc in search of clues that might point out to the fact that Di’s accident was, in fact, a murder. Readers must be aware of the fact that this story is purely fictional. The author has mentioned that his research on the fatal car crash is thorough and he has gone through all the available data. But the ‘murder plot’ and conspiracy itself is purely fictional.

We have two stories here. Marc has two cases in hand. One is infidelity case and the other is that of the car crash. We have a twist half way through – which makes it very clear to the reader that a big player is holding the strings and Marc has no idea what he’s gotten himself into.

I cannot reveal anything much about this book without giving away spoilers. As I mentioned before, there are plenty of twists and double crossings. Some of the chapters ended with a shocking development – I had to read the last sentences twice to make sure I read them right.

This is a fast-paced conspiracy thriller. Excellent character development and plot twists. Having said that, things take an unexpected turn at the end and somehow, I felt this didn’t do justice to the suspense built from the beginning.

Overall, An Accident in Paris by Gavin Collinson was an interesting and intriguing read. I am looking forward to knowing what’s next for Marc Novak.
