Watch Her Sleep is the third book in Detective Charlotte Winters series by L.T. Vargus and Tom McBain.
This is, no doubt, one of my favorite mystery series. Charlie Winters is a P.I. at Salem Island. When uncle Frank was diagnosed with cancer, Charlie moved to town to take over his Private Investigation office – A1 Investigations.
The best part about this series, apart from the spine-chilling suspense and mind-blowing sleuthing adventures, is Charlie’s twin sister Allie. Allie went missing years ago. The only evidence found of her murder was a foot that had washed up on the beach. Allie might not be alive but she still exists in Charlie’s mind. Allie is known to lighten up a sullen mood, make sarcastic remarks and so on.
Emma, a young part-time waitress at a local bar asks Charlie to help find the man stalking her. She believes he has been to her house, and watches her wherever she goes. The next day, Emma goes missing and a search party is called. Charlie’s group ends up finding Emma’s corpse.
Emma’s stalker has a new target. Charlie needs to catch him red-handed before he harms anyone else. The stalker is aware of Charlie and her investigations.
Watch Her Sleep might not be the book you want to read before sleeping – unless you want your ‘blissful sleep’ to be marred with nightmares. This book certainly brought a shiver down my spine. The stalking gets pretty intense and scary at times. Creepy to a whole new level! This is what makes Watch Her Sleep an engrossing and nail-biting read.
Leave it to the authors L.T. Vargus and Tim McBain to come up with a story that keeps one on the edge of their seat. Utterly creep-ish, engrossing and suspenseful.
I identified the perp before Charlie could – the poor thing did not see it coming. (Hence 4 stars instead of 5.) But the events leading up to the ending was creep to the core and I didn’t read this story at bed time.
Watch Her Sleep is an engrossing, suspenseful and riveting mystery. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC.
