Genre: Cozy Mystery
The Perfect Cornish Murder is the third book in Fiona Leitch’s Nosey Parker Mystery series. Having read the first books of this series, I was eagerly waiting to read this book.
It goes without saying that Fiona Leitch writes awesome cozy mysteries. A whole lot of humor, a dash of naughty and quirky and whole lot of fun, I absolutely love the Nosey Parker series.
Our protagonist is Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker – a London cop turned caterer. She moved to Penstowan after the divorce. She lives with her daughter Daisy, mum Shirley and dog Germaine. We also have two men as Jodie’s possible love interest- Tony, Jodie’s first boyfriend (currently divorced) and DCI Nathan Withers. Jodie’s ex-crush, Callum, is back at Penstowan. The gorgeous looking teenager has transformed into a paunch-bellied, almost-bald man. His wife Debbie and Jodie got along well the first time they met – and are now very good friends.
A film crew is in Penstowan shooting for a Hollywood movie. They want extras and the Parkers cannot wait to make their ‘debut’ (even if as extras). Rumor is, the set is cursed. First, one of the actress’ caravan door gets jammed, then comes the breaking of light bulbs and faulty generator. This is followed by death of an actor. Was this an accident or did someone deliberately kill him and made it look like an accident?
Jodie is torn between solving the case and choosing ‘the one’. Nathan has some news to share and Jodie wonders if they have a chance at dating. Meanwhile, Tony and his tight fitting pants has risen the temperature in Penstowan by a notch! *wink wink*
The mystery behind the ‘murder’ is well-maintained until the end. The identity of the killer and the reason behind the crime was surprising. I did not see this coming. The only reason this book got 4 stars instead of 5 is, I did not like the denouement as much as I wanted to.
The Perfect Cornish Murder by Fiona Leitch is a fun, humorous and engrossing read. The Nosey Parker series is a favorite of mine, and I cannot wait to see what’s next for Jodie – there’s a surprise for Jodie (and us) as the story ends. I wonder how this new twist will hinder or ignite her ‘nosey’ skills.
