What If? by Shari Low

1999 :Carly Cooper is 30 and single. After almost saying ‘I Do’ to six different men, she wonders if she accidentally let go of Mr Right. She quits her job and decides to travel the world – in search of the men she left years ago. In the era before social media, Carly only has the beloved landline and ‘gut instinct’ by her side. And of course, her gal gang.

What If? is the first Shari Low book I have read and it definitely won’t be the last. From first chapter to the last, this book was an absolute hoot! What quirky idea is that, eh? Go in search on the exes wondering if one of them was Mr Right? There are bound to be a disappointment or two but Carly is prepared for it, or so she believes until she meets her second and third boyfriend. *wink wink*

Have you ever wondered what your ex mates (love interests or just friends) would be doing right now? Well, consider yourself in the era where Facebook, Twitter and google does not exist. How will you know where they live? If they are happily married? Or, ahem, happily divorced? Kids?

Shari Low is an excellent storyteller. The character development is excellent. Not just Carly, we have Carly’s friends’ side stories too. This inclusion certainly adds a zing to the already zing-y, naughty story.

The ending was surprising. It’s always the ‘unexpected’ one that ends up being ‘The One’, eh? Not really… The sequel of this book – What Now? was recently published. In What Now? we are fast forwarded to twenty years where Carly is now a mum and um, divorced.

If you love chick-lit/women’s fiction, What If? by Shari Low is a must-read novel.
