Title: The No 2 Feline Detective Agency (No 2 Feline Detective Agency #1)
Author: Mandy Morton
Published on: 3 May 2014
Genre: Cozy Mystery
The No 2 Feline Detective Agency is the first book in the series featuring Hettie Bagshot and Tilly Jenkins.
Having read the latest installments of the series (published by Farrago books), I was looking forward to catching up with the ones I had missed reading. As a first in the series, I expected the spotlight to be on character development and the setting. I would have loved to see some deets/background on Tilly. (We are repeatedly told of Hettie’s past – when she was a musician.)
Hettie and Tilly have started a detective agency and they haven’t had a case yet. Rent is due and food is depleting; if this continues, they will be forced to live on the streets. Hettie receives a call from Marcia Woolcoat, a woman who runs an old-age home for cats. She says three of her dead clients’ bodies have gone missing from their coffins. Hettie agrees to investigate further and find the body snatcher/grave digger.
A cozy mystery featuring cats – cats living in a world where everything is (almost) purr-fect – this must be bliss!!! As a cat lover, I would certainly love to live in such a world – as long as cats don’t mind a human interfurrence. 😉
The mystery behind the missing dead bodies is more than just a body snatcher at play. There is a twist or two but somehow it failed to impress me as much as I wanted it to. The final twist, just two chapters before the ending, was unexpected – I did not expect it, nor did I like it.
The element of humor is plenty. A charity shop to mobile library for cats; famous Hollywood (cat) actress to once-famous-now-grumpy-author. Oh yes, we also have a fashion show- hoot cature. And as you know, no fashion show is complete without a catwalk.
I have enjoyed the latter books in this series. As a first in the series, The No 2 Feline Detective Agency is an okay read. If you are looking for a fun read, I recommend the latest books in this series.
I picked up the latest from NetGalley am am looking forward to reading it. Such a fun concept, and just from the title (A Pocketful of Pie) I’m loving the play on Agatha Christie, and the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency books. Was in fact planning to ask whether you’d read them
I too have it on my kindle. Haven’t read it yet. Planning to read it this weekend.😀 I loved the previous three books.
Me too, after the current read.
I sent you a DM on twitter. We could plan a buddy read for Pocket Full of Pie.🙂
Replied, yes, would like to, but can get to it only around the weekend, may be Monday
I’m glad you enjoyed this one, I have it in my TBR pile.
The latest one is on Netgalley for request.🙂
