Hop ‘Til You Drop is the third book in Jules and Bun Cozy mystery series. An adorable pet bunny who communicates with its owner telepathically, Easter festivities that end with a murder and an amateur sleuth juggling between managing her rabbit farm and solving a crime, Hop ‘Til You Drop is an engrossing and entertaining read.
I have read the first two books of this series and I really like the concept of a psychic bunny. I mean, how cool would it be if pets could communicate with us… telepathically! Jules, our main character is a rabbit farm owner. Recovering from an almost fatal accident and managing a rabbit farm on her own might not have been easy but with the help of Jessica (the vet) and Molly (spin class instructor), Jules is doing well. Then we have Bun, Jules’ pet (psychic) bunny.
As a third in the series, I must say I am impressed with the way the characters are moving ahead in their lives. The romance angle hasn’t been explored yet – Jules is single and has no time to date. Having said that, Bun and Jules form quite an impressive amateur sleuthing pair. Bun is a little (ahem) stubborn and bossy and this makes him adorable.
Jules is volunteering for the egg-hunting contest. She’s asked to hide the painted eggs so that children can find them when the event starts. The egg-hiding is disrupted by a hare-raising experience when Bun finds the dead body of the supervisor, Della Meany. Della was rude to everyone and nobody liked her much. But who might have hated her so much that they wanted to kill her?
As Jules starts to investigate – by now, the local cops know better than to stop her from investigating – she stumbles upon a clue. She vaguely remembers seeing a two-legged six-foot tall rabbit running away from the scene of crime. Back then, she thought her mind was playing games. Then, she sees it again. Ah-hah!
The mystery behind the murder is kept a secret until the end. Same goes for the identity of the perp. I could not identify the perp until they came face to face with Jules – oh, boy! J.M. Griffin is a master storyteller and Hop ‘Til You Drop is a very well-written cozy mystery. If you are looking for a fun and cozy Easter read, you might want to give Hop ‘Til You Drop a try and you won’t be disappointed.
