Title: Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison (Asbury High YA Cozy Mystery #2)

Asbury’s Nancy Drews are back! After solving their first case a few months ago, Pilot, Maddie, Neal and Carly are drawn into solving another case. The Food Network wants to do a special segment on Asbury’s favourite hangouts and Brady’s is on their list too. Asbury is filled with shoobies (non-Asburyans) and reporters, and it’s summer vacation. Soon, patrons start falling severely ill after eating at Brady’s. It’s up to Pilot, Carly, Maddie and Neal to save their favourite restaurant.
I found Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison to be better than the first book in the series. The suspense was well-maintained throughout the story. The kids teenagers are busy enjoying summer vacation – Carly’s birthday celebrations, games between the east and West Asburyans, a pretty-looking lifeguard who has swooned the boys with her charming looks and blonde hair, and a mystery.
When the patrons start to fall sick, the fearless four are hell-bent on catching the culprit. A new pancake place has opened up and Brady’s is in for some serious competition. But the food poisoning episodes have taken a toll on Brady’s popularity.
Meanwhile, Neal’s dad’s contesting for the mayoral elections – or rather, he’s the only one ‘contesting’ the elections. Neal’s cousin has a crush on Maddie and Neal is not liking it. The poor chap doesn’t realize he’s crushing on Maddie – hence the feelings of jealousy and envy. Uh-huh. Puppy love!
The mystery behind the food poisoning, theft and a lot of people losing the keys to their establishments were the best part of this story. I really liked how each of these clues leads the four teenagers to the missing piece of the puzzle – the perp.
Asbury High and the Parcels of Poisons is a well-written and entertaining mystery.
