Title: Coming for You (Amelia Kellaway #2)
Author: Deborah Rogers
Published on: 30th June 2020
Genre: Mystery and Thrillers (Psychological)
It’s been three years since Amelia Kellaway was kidnapped; three years since the scar of her abductor’s torture and rape. Amelia had hurt her foot while escaping from her captor Rex Hawkins and it had to be amputated. She still has bouts of panic attacks and blackouts.
She knows for sure Rex is still stalking her. She now works at the District Attorney’s office She walks around with the help of orthopedic shoes and a cane.
Amelia is currently fighting a sexual abuse case – a young girl of 11 was abused by a teacher. As the trial proceeds, the defense unravels a 7-year-old similar case filed by the girl’s mother – it was later settled with money. Amelia got to know about this a day before the court proceedings but failed to tell the defense about it, resulting in a mistrial.
Amelia is suspended until further notice. Ethan North, a cop working on the sexual abuse case, befriends Amelia. He wants to help her but Amelia pushes him away. Is Rex still alive? Is he still stalking her?
Another masterpiece by Deborah Rogers. I binge read the first two books of this series and I cannot wait to see what’s next for Amelia.
Amelia’s PTSD is well-portrayed throughout the book. Amelia’s OCD, panic attacks and high anxiety and stress levels – we never recover from the trauma. Time might heal the wounds but it leaves behind the scars – the scars that survivors have to deal with their whole life.
Coming for You is an engrossing, nail-biting psychological thriller. One might think Amelia went a little overboard with the OCD but as someone who has had PTSD, sometimes things go way beyond control and OCD, checking and rechecking things is one of the ways for survivors to deal with the trauma.
There is no doubt that Deborah Rogers is a master storyteller. She’s in my favourite author list and I cannot wait to see what twists she’s going to bring in the next book of this series.
Speaking of twists, I never saw the twist coming in this book. That was totally mind-blowing! Wow! Just when one thinks they can let go and drop their guard… oh hum!!
Coming for You can be read as a standalone but I recommend you to read Left for Dead (book #1) first. Coming for You is a bone-chilling, nail-biting thriller and a highly recommended read from me.
I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
