6-year-old Adrian’s birthday party is in full swing. Jules has brought her rabbits for petting and Bailey’s done with her puppet show. The party has suddenly come to a standstill; kids and their mommies are leaving the party. Why? Someone is found in the bushes with a knife to their chest – Evelyn Montgomery.

Carina asks Jules to help her out – after all, the dead body was found at her place, making her number 1 suspect. Bun, Jules’ psychic rabbit cannot stop hopping around hearing that he and Jules will be solving the case. Hop Hop Hop!

I cannot believe it’s been six months since the first book in this series – Left Fur Dead – was released. There are so many varieties of cozy mysteries out there; Jules and Bun Mystery series is one of my favorite series. A psychic bunny rabbit and his caretaker solving crimes? Uh-huh! My kinda story!

Plot to Story Development

Having read Left Fur Dead, I had high expectations from this book. I wouldn’t say I was disappointed but my expectations were a tad dampened. Hmm! A dead body at a kid’s birthday party and the local Sheriff asking Jules to play his informant – my, my! Jules and Bun are going to be famous! Well not ‘famous’ famous, but maybe they can join the local PD as consultants, right?

The mystery and the suspense kept me hooked on to the story. Jules and Bun are pretty good sleuths, or rather, sleuths-in-the-making. Bun has superpowers- he can talk (telepathically) with human beings. Superbunny!

The story seemed a tad dragged in the second half. Certain clues given by Bun and Carina helped me in identifying the perp before Jules could. Now you know why I said my expectations were a tad dampened. Anyhoo, I enjoyed the story. Bun, the cutie patootie, added a cozy charm to the story.

Character Development

Bun and Jules are inseparable! The investigation takes Jules to places where animals aren’t allowed so Bun stays home. And, at times, Bun stays out when Jules is snooping around – nobody gives a damn about a bunny hopping around, do they? This gives Bun to snoop around or warn Jules about the forthcoming danger.

Jack Carver, the local sheriff, wants Jules’ help. Beat that! The man kept warning Jules during her previous adventure and now the tables have turned. Jessica, Molly and Jason help Jules in managing the barn while she goes off on her sleuthing business.

The perp plays quite a role in the story. Their true colors aren’t out until the latter part of the story. The reason for killing Evelyn surely sends shivers down your spine! A role well played, indeed.

Since I had identified the perp before Jules could, it wasn’t an ‘ah-ha!’ moment when Jules reveals their name. However, I was curious to know the reason for committing this horrendous crime. Jules catches the killer red-handed – quite a scene this, with some ninja action and all. πŸ˜€

If you love cozy mysteries and want to try something new, I recommend you to read Who’s Dead, Doc? This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you to start from Left Fur Dead – the first book in this series.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
