Albertus Eagle is no longer with his owner, Milly. After finding Milly dead one day, Albertus and Cleo the cat were moved to an animal shelter. But things didn’t go well there either so Bella decides to take them home. She understands the animals. In fact, when Albie has his doubts, Bella decides to investigate. Cleo, Albie and Bella form a detective pair and off they go in search of clues that might help catch Milly’s killer.

I love stories that involve amateur sleuths. I love stories that have pets in them – any pet is fine. And when pets turn detectives, the story becomes even more interesting. Animals might not have the gift of speech, but they do have an analytical brain. They can sense things better than human beings do.

The story starts with Albie giving the readers a gist of what’s happening in his life. His relationship with the cat – no, he doesn’t like to call the cat Cleo – well, cats and dogs aren’t supposed to be friends, remember? So, he acts like he doesn’t care for Cleo but in reality, he adores the fluff ball!

Bella seems to understand animals. She’s more than just a dog whisperer. She can understand what animals say, so Albie and Bella form quite a bond. They think Cleo doesn’t speak much or they don’t understand her language. But if you are a cat person like me, you would know that cats are more intelligent than dogs. Hah! Cleo proves that! She speaks and Bella and Albie are shell-shocked!

Bella takes Albie on her trips to ‘question the suspects’. I wish she had taken Cleo too. I know it is easier to take your dog with you wherever you go rather than your cat, but being a cat person, (and very, very partial to cats), I felt Cleo should have been given a bigger role in the story. What say, Cleo? Paw-five!

The descriptions are fantastic. Remember, this is a story from a dog’s perspective so wherever Albie goes, he recognizes cart loads of scents – human sweat, pheromones, flowery fragrances and many more! And oh yes, the good boy drools over cakes!!

The suspect list isn’t long but the ones who are in it seems to have a motive to kill Milly. I felt people were more than ready to reveal information that Bella was seeking. Since the story is from Albie’s perspective, maybe he feels it that way. Otherwise, it usually doesn’t happen like that, does it? An amateur sleuth is, most of the times, shown the door, for poking their nose where it doesn’t belong.

The ending was good. Pip, the cop who has hots for Bella, well, there was something about him that left the trio shocked in the end. 😀 😀

Every Dog Has His Day is an entertaining and charming cozy mystery that involves a cute Beagle and a fur ball as detectives! I am looking forward to reading more of Albie’s adventures. 🙂

Thank you, Rachel, from Rachel’s Random Resources for giving me an opportunity to be  a part of this blog tour.
