Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Beatrice’s date fails to show up. She learns that he is at the church so she decides to keep an eye on him. One moment he is found flirting with a young woman and the next time Beatrice sees him, he is lying dead on the floor – murdered, and a squished Strawberry cream cupcake is found next to his body.

The chief investigation officer of this murder case turns out to be Detective Rogers, an ex-student of Beatrice. He is not happy to see her at the crime scene as he holds her responsible for putting an end to his football career.

With the help of her two best friends Stella and Sophie and her ever-famous desserts, Beatrice decides to solve the mystery behind the murder.

Let me start by saying that this is one of the cutest stories that I have ever read! There is gossip, quirky humor, flirting, a little bit of romance, baking and a whole lotta fun! Jessica Lansberry has done a really good job in keeping the readers hooked to the book till the end. This is one of the first books that I have read in the mystery genre which has no violence or gory. Instead, there are three best friends and their silly adventures in life.

Beatrice is a 60-something baker and a recent widow. She lives with her pet parrot Buzz; she also feeds a stray cat (who is now almost her pet) named Sylvester.

Stella is Beatrice’s best friend. She has quite a reputation in town – she is known to have slept with almost half the men in town! (That is what Beatrice claims!)

Sophie is a silly, insane and quirky friend of Beatrice’s. She doesn’t know which end of the toothpaste to open, and she seems confused between cream filling and liquid detergent!

There is a whole lot of luring people with yummy desserts for information and alibis. Beatrice and her world-famous cupcakes, muffins, and cookies!

In brief, this is one of the best and funniest books that I have ever come across. If you want to do some fun reading, and if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind story, then this might be it!

NOTE: There were a lot of typos in the ebook; I hope these are corrected, even if they aren’t, this story is definitely worth a read.
